LGBTQ Spirituality Asian Non-Binary Therapist Psychologist Elsa Lau

You are worthy of care and radical transparency

These are essential pathways to braving the journey of change, discovering innate gifts, and integrating the past to cultivate a better future. Courageous self-exploration supports empowered re-storying of “who am I?” in relation to mind, body, identities, relationships, and communities.

Your innate wisdom is always welcome, because healing starts in deep relationship and honors exactly where you are, this moment. I also believe that mental health must be contextualized by the very real systemic issues and value structures we exist in, and have internalized (e.g., grind culture, or corporate and academic institutions that center productivity over the need for rest, creativity, and deep community). My approach integrates cultural diversity in working with skills-enhancement and personal paths to insight and transformation, personal and collective.

Things we may explore:

(1) Past experiences that shape present challenges, and possibilities

(2) Science informed methods for emotional/physical health and self-development

(3) Personalized approaches to safe and brave authenticity in relationships

LGBTQ+, BIPOC, Asian American, and neurodivergent teens, adults, partners, and families of all kinds who seek an affirmative and intersectional approach to mental wellness are especially welcome. We all deserve spaciousness for our multifaceted selves to be seen, understood, and celebrated as a dynamic whole.

FAQs

  • Please kindly provide 48hr notice to avoid paying the full fee for late cancellations and missed appointments.

  • Therapy sessions are virtual so you'll need a good signal or wifi for us to connect by phone or video. I use a HIPPA compliant and confidential video platform that you can access via a private link (email and text). I recommend testing the link prior to our session to see if your audio/video/wifi is all good to go.

  • See above for current therapy rate. From time to time I have a small number of lower fee spots that become available and are prioritized for students or those with true financial need (refer to this helpful model to determine your eligibility).

Your credit card will be charged within 24hrs of a session.

  • Paying out-of-pocket has several benefits, including confidentiality of your treatment records and diagnoses, and avoiding insurance-imposed limits to care.

  • I’m an eligible out of network provider, so while I don’t work directly with your insurance, they may cover up to 80% of the session fee if you have out-of-network coverage. After you pay for your session, I can give you a superbill to submit directly to your insurance for reimbursement. Here are simple steps to confirm what your insurance may reimburse before we begin working together:

Call your insurance and ask the following:

    (1) what are my out-of-network mental health benefits?

    (2) do I have a deductible (the amount you need to pay for healthcare before your insurance pays) and if so, have I met the deductible?

    (3) what is my co-pay (the amount you pay for therapy after you've met the deductible and your insurance starts paying for a portion of therapy fees).

    (4) how many sessions per year does my plan cover?

  • First few sessions focus on intake. We’ll get to know each other, gather some history, discuss your current challenges, strengths, supports, and goals.

Sessions run 50-55 minutes. In unique circumstances and time-permitting, we can extend a session in 30 minute increments.

We generally meet weekly. This allows us to make steady progress exploring topics and goals that are important to you. For some, twice a week may be a better fit.

Treatment duration varies. Sometimes, brief treatment is highly effective for addressing event-specific issues and problem-solving around specific goals. More complex issues and goals may benefit from longer term in-depth work.
